Hay, big news- We've moved!
I’ve been meaning to start writing blog posts for a while, they seem to be all the rage with therapists, but they’ve taken a back seat to just about everything else! So, here I am writing the first one…and it seems fitting that it be to share such exciting news!
As most folks know, for the first year and a half of it’s existence Stable Ground Counseling was graciously housed at the beautiful Russell’s Reach Farm in Wilmington, NC. I would not have been able to start this business and see it succeed without the kindness and support of Kim and Tim Niggel (owners of RR Farm). They welcomed me and my clients with open arms and continue to be the kind of cheerleader friends that are hard to come by in life. That said, it has always been my dream to have a farm of my own, dedicated solely to mental health… and this December an opportunity presented itself that was just too good to pass up! In January of 2020 my husband and I purchased a sweet little farm in Rocky Point that we affectionately call “The Spur.” We’ve been working on the barn and property just about non stop and just this past week I saw my first clients out here!
While I’m sad to leave my buddies at Russell’s Reach, I’m incredibly excited for this new adventure. My passion for horses began around age 1 and just hasn’t seemed to die down…it’s definitely not a “phase” as my parents probably wished! Tragedy struck my life when I was 24 years old and it was then that I learned the true power of horses. My personal horse, General Eisenhower “Ike”, pulled me through my darkest days and helped me learn to see and experience joy again. Somewhere along that journey I thought, “Somebody has to be doing therapy with horses….” and, turns out, it’s a thing! Thus began my ten year journey to become a licensed therapist, certified equine therapy practitioner, and now farm owner! This work is so deeply tied to my heart and I’ve never felt more aligned and stable than I do when I walk these grounds. It is my absolute joy to offer up this farm, these horses, and my skills/training to those who may be hurting, searching, or simply trying live a better life.
More to come soon…photos, a video tour, and profiles on all of my equine partners (Ike included!)…but for now, I just want to say thank you- thank you for your support on this journey, thank you to Kim and Tim for helping me get my start, thank you to my husband for believing in this dream, and thank you to my fierce clients who trust me to walk along side of you. It’s a gift to sit where I sit today, and I definitely don’t take it for granted!
